Transdermal Administration

A liposomal matrix is ​​suitable for the transdermal administration of active substances. The transdermal absorption of an active ingredient results from the direct penetration of the active ingredient through the stratum corneum (outermost layer of the epidermis). The intercellular space of the stratum corneum is the main penetration route of the active ingredient. Once the active ingredient has passed through the stratum corneum, it then penetrates the deeper epidermal tissues and dermis and then reaches the vascular tissue. Once the active ingredient has reached these vascular tissues, it becomes available for absorption into the bloodstream.


Transdermal delivery of active substances has several advantages:

• Non-invasive, ideal as a substitute for other dosage forms (injections)
• First-pass effect (decomposition of active substances by the liver) is avoided
• Difficulty swallowing (think of the elderly) are avoided
• The patient can apply treatment himself
